Sachio Kurumizawa is an omega mouse manga artist, and Ukano, the alpha fox, is his editor… but Sachio can’t help but feel uncomfortable around Ukano.
He always seems to look at Sachio with predatory eyes.
One night, Sachio goes into heat at an omega-only bar, and Ukano saves him.
Unfortunately, Sachio has no idea how long he’ll stay in heat… and then, Ukano offers to help him stop it.
Will Sachio say yes to getting between the sheets with Ukano despite his terror of being devoured…!?
Thinky Thoughts
Omegaverse is obviously a majorly important thing in my life. I am always reading it, thinking about it, and writing it. I only haven’t put out some horrifying Mahito/Junpei omegaverse yet because there are so many other, worse AUs that I’ve been busy with.
Anyway, I got into The Foxy Mouse’s Romance because… I saw a TikTok about it. For a site that punishes you for basically wiggling a toe out of step, the social media platform sure has become the main first site/sight for me when it comes to spicy webtoons and manga.
It wasn’t the omegaverse aspect of the series that got to me at first, by the way. What drew me was the look on Sachio’s face when he was talking about Ukano eying him like predators are wont to. There’s this one panel in the first chapter where Ukano says something – I don’t remember what – and Sachio just gives him this ugly disgusted face that had me cracking up.
I knew from that moment that I was going to be reading this series.
The Foxy Mouse’s Romance hits every single trope you can possibly think of in the hybrid subgenre of omegaverse. The worldbuilding is kind of like an erotic version of Zootopia – yes, I went there – but with the values flipped and predators (and alphas) reverting to their base instincts at the direct expense of prey in their society. Ukane is an omega mouse, the bottom of the bottom when it comes to omegaverse hierarchies and hybrid/beast men hierarchies. He’s food that you can fuck first and boy do they both bring that up often. It’s not necessarily that Sachio feels oppressed or that Ukano wants to oppress him, but that they’re both aware of where Sachio stands and how dangerous the world is for them… It also is that it turns them both on somewhat to lean into the predator/prey aspects of their relationship? While heats/ruts come up across this manga, the more obvious roadblock in their relationship is that as a fox, Ukano is predisposed to want to eat mice like Sachio. This is too the point where he doesn’t just want to bite Sachio the way an alpha wants to bite an omega… but the way one would bite into a steak.
The fact that Sachio is both terrified of this and immensely turned on by it makes this series.
The Foxy Mouse’s Romance is SUCH a tropey romantic comedy. It’s got some dramatic points – like when an alpha wolf with a crush on Ukano disparages Sachio right to his face while they’re out on a date – but it’s a largely light-hearted take on Omegaverse and these characters finding each other while fighting with themselves and their instincts.
I think if you wanted a kind of head-empty (ish) take on something like Beastars or a flat out horny Zootopia… this would be it for you? I think it’s a very fun series with a delicious dose of kink exploration and conversations about consuming the one you love. But there’s no cannibalism… yet.

I bought the first volume and I’ll check it out! I’m a little slower to read light novels (vs manga) unless they’re on an app like Tapas/Tappytoon so it might take me a min but I’ll definitely read the first volume and, if nothing else considering how comically busy I am, I’ll review that! Thanks so much for the recommendation!
